You can’t fake passion
Ashleigh grew up competing in a variety of sports. In high school, she was a member of a synchronized skating team which competed nationally, earning a spot on Team Canada. Representing Canada, the team travelled to France twice, once walking away with a gold medal. After hanging up her skates to focus on school, Ashleigh filled the void by becoming a fitness instructor. While this kept her active, she missed the competitive aspect of sport and decided to try entering an Ontario Physique Association competition in the bikini category.
In her first year of competing, Ashleigh stepped on stage five times with varying degrees of success. Following that year, she entered offseason with the goal of building enough muscle to move into the Figure category. Shortly after that, she found herself at home in the Women’s Physique division. Currently working towards her goal of stepping on the national stage in 2016, Ashleigh hopes to wear a national team jacket and represent Canada in a totally different sport, with a vastly different physique from her figure skating days.
While bodybuilding is an individual sport, a great support system makes it a little easier. Ashleigh is thankful for the support of her sponsor, Absolute Touch, for making sure she always looks her best on stage. The coaching team, and fellow athletes on Team T-rex are a great source of knowledge, support, and encouragement. Finally, Ashleigh is thankful to have the support of her husband Kyle, also a competitive bodybuilder. A built-in training partner and cheat meal date makes life more fun!
Ashleigh completed her bachelor’s degree in Physical Education in 2006 and her Master’s in Human Kinetics in 2008. Throughout her education, her research focus was sport and exercise psychology, stemming from her years as a competitive synchronized figure skater. Her passion for fitness and health led her to a career as a Health Promotion Specialist. Upon becoming a competitive athlete in the sport of bodybuilding, she combined her love of fitness and research and started learning as much as possible about training and nutrition. Her educational background and passion for writing have opened the door to writing and editing for a number of leading magazines in the fitness industry.
Ashleigh now works with clients, helping them reach their health and fitness goals – whether it involves stepping on stage as a competitor, or transforming their physique for general health purposes. With competitive experience as a bikini, figure, and physique athlete, Ashleigh is comfortable working with competitors in any of these categories. She’s always excited when a female comes to her with the goal of putting on muscle mass! Her main focus is on producing your best physique with your health in mind.
